Trane XV20i Installed in Houston, TX
Trane makes some of the best residential HVAC systems available. Their best system (to date… which I’m sure they have another more efficient unit up their sleeves) is the XV20i. Here is an example of one we installed on a houston home in the meyerland/bellaire.

You can see the XV20i alongside an older XL14i system(below). The XL is a 3.5 ton while the XV20i is a 2 ton. You’ll notice that the new XV20i is almost the same size as the older system. Trane has made the newer units larger to enhance their efficiency (more surface area for effective heat transfer).
In comparison, the new XV20i far exceeds Trane’s previous XL lineup. Trane is phasing out their XL lineup to make more room for the XVs.
Are the XVs better than the XL lineup? Absolutely! Higher efficiency… up to 20.5 SEER which equates to lower utility bills. More accuracy. XLs typically had 2 speeds available whereas the XV system speeds can range from 30-100%(conventional) in tenths(yes tenths) of a percent. This accuracy is unmatched by competing equipment manufacturers like Lennox and Carrier.
