Ducted Mini-Split Installation in Houston
Recently, Mission AC installed a mini-split system with ducts on a home in West University Place. Let me first emphasize that this installation is not by any means normal. The scenario was far from typical, and it wasn’t part of a planned new construction build. However, the circumstances forced us to get creative with how to provide heating and cooling in this home. Let’s discuss how this ducted mini-split system came to be.
First, Some Background Information
The homeowner had a garage and covered parking on the front side of their house. They decided to finish out the garage and make it a new family room for the house. The problem they encountered is that the room is under a second story with no air conditioning. There are no vents to the new space, and the existing HVAC system wasn’t large enough to handle the additional load.
Thus, they were left with a beautiful yet uncomfortable room. That’s when the Mission AC team got a call from the homeowner to come up with a solution to their problem. You can see what we came up with in the pictures below.
Installation Requirements
The homeowner wanted something that cooled the space well without compromising its aesthetic. For this reason, we had to rule out any traditional, mounted ductless systems. We settled on a ducted Mitsubishi mini-split air handler, which would meet all of the homeowner’s requests for a new system.
What was included in the installation?
The System
We installed a Mitsubishi heat pump system with a 16 SEER rating and a 12,000 BTU cooling capacity.
Warranties:
- Seven-year compressor warranty
- Five-year parts warranty
- One-year labor warranty
Additional Services and Materials
In addition to installing the system, our team also:
- Cut sheetrock
- Installed three supply ducts and one return air duct
- Placed grills 22″ below the ceiling.
We also secured permits and installed condensation drains, a secondary pan, an overflow prevention device, hanging straps, unistrut supports, a condenser pad, a disconnect box, a whip, a copper line set with a covering, a control wire and other small parts.
