Trane XV18 Review in Memorial area of Houston TX – 18 SEER
XV18 Trane Air Conditioner installed in 2014
This particular job was our first of the XV line which we were very excited to see in action as they were released this year. We were particularly excited to see how the customer would take to the new technology. This XV18 system replaced a 1986 York unit. The difference in technology, efficiency, and total comfort was drastically different. The customer noted right away how much more comfortable they were at a higher temperature. This is due in large part to increased humidity removal compared to the older system. In particular this Trane system was installed on the master suite. After the first night they informed us how much quieter the XV18 system was than their previous one. The XV18 and XV20 have one of the widest operating ranges available in central air which makes for much greater efficiency gains and lower noise levels.
Old York AC Condenser – 1986 New XV18 Trane Condenser – 2014 Comfort Link II Thermostat 950
Pictured above is the Comfort Link II thermostat which is included with the XV18 and XV20 systems. It is fully programmable and as you can see is a touchscreen stat. One of my favorite features is the Home, Away, and Sleep modes. Instead of pressing the temp again and again to move the thermostat up or down you can go to your desired temperature with one click.
It should be noted that the comfort link II is the superior thermostat for this system. We’ve had a few customers ask for the nest which is fine for some systems but not for the XV Series. The Comfortlink also connects to WiFi as well it connects to Nexia (a home automation/management program) so you can adjust the temperature in your house from your iPad while your in Paris.
